A portion of the access road on the south side of Lake Atoka
near the Atoka Dam is closed to vehicle traffic so damage to the spillway
caused by flood waters in 2015 can be repaired. The closed area includes a 2 ½
mile stretch of road between the playground and the spillway access road,
located approximately 1/4 mile north of Highway 69 at Venita Allen Road.
Visitors to the lake will still be able to access the
playground, pavilion and boat ramp area, but will need to use the north
entrance at Lake Shore Drive off of Highway 69.
During construction, the lake level will be lowered by
approximately five feet so crews can access the spillway area. The project is
expected to be completed in 16 months.
All other recreational activities, including fishing and
boating, will remain available to the public for the majority of the project.
Lake access may be limited from time to time for rock blasting activities that
are necessary to enlarge the existing spillway.
